Export and back up your library
Save a complete Swiftflip Archive or a CSV of your cards, preview a backup with Quick Look and restore it later through Import.
Swiftflip keeps your study data on your devices and in your iCloud. A backup file is your own copy, so you can move to a new device, archive a finished course or just have peace of mind. There is no lock-in.
Two ways to export
Swiftflip exports in two formats:
- Swiftflip Archive is a complete backup. It includes your decks, folders, Smart Decks, card text, images, audio and your study history.
- CSV File is plain text with a front and a back column. It opens in any spreadsheet and imports into other flashcard apps. Images and audio are not included.
Use Swiftflip Archive to protect everything. Use CSV when you want the text somewhere else.
Export on iPhone and iPad
Open Settings, then tap Export All Decks. Choose a format. Swiftflip creates the file and the share sheet opens, so you can save it to Files or iCloud Drive or send it somewhere.
If any card has an image or audio and you pick CSV, Swiftflip warns you that media will not be included. Choose Swiftflip Archive instead for a full copy.
Export on Mac
Use the File menu, then Export. Pick a format and choose where to save. iCloud Drive keeps the backup available on your other devices.
Preview a backup with Quick Look
Select a .swiftflip file in Finder and press Space. Quick Look shows what is inside without opening Swiftflip, so you can confirm a backup looks right before you rely on it.
Restore from a backup
To bring a backup back, use Import. On iPhone or iPad open Settings then Import Decks. On Mac use File then Import. Pick your .swiftflip or CSV file and choose what to bring in. Cards that already exist are skipped, so importing twice does not create duplicates. A Swiftflip Archive can also restore your study history.
Keep backups safe
A backup is only useful if you can find it later. Save archives to iCloud Drive or another place you trust, and make a fresh one before big changes like clearing out old decks. For accidental deletes within the last 30 days, Recently Deleted is faster than a full restore.
